Taking measurements at home is easier than most people expect.
You need:
- A soft measuring tape
- Someone to help you
- Fitted clothing
- Around five minutes
Give us your actual body measurements.
Do not add or subtract inches to create your preferred fit. Our tailors calculate the necessary allowance.
THE MEASUREMENTS WE MAY ASK FOR
Height & Weight
These help us cross-check your other measurements and overall body proportions.
Chest
Measure around the fullest part of the chest.
Keep the tape level and comfortable — not tight.
Shoulder
Measure across the back from one shoulder edge to the other.
This is particularly important because jacket shoulders are much harder to alter than the waist or sleeve.
Stomach
Measure around the fullest part of the stomach while standing naturally.
Waist
Measure where you normally wear your trousers.
Hip / Seat
Measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat.
Thigh
Measure around the fullest part of the thigh.
Trouser Length
Measure from your normal trouser waist position down to the desired finished length.
Menista’s existing measurement process also uses height, chest, shoulder, stomach, hip, waist, sleeve, thigh and trouser length as core fit information.
Sleeve Length
Measure from the shoulder point down the outside of the arm to where you would like the jacket sleeve to finish.
Keep the arm relaxed and naturally positioned while measuring.
Bicep — Relaxed
With your arm hanging naturally by your side, measure around the fullest part of the upper arm.
Keep the tape comfortable and do not tighten it around the arm.
Bicep — Flexed
Flex your bicep and measure around the fullest point of the upper arm.
Do not pull the measuring tape tight. We use this measurement to make sure the sleeve has enough room for comfortable movement.
PHOTOS HELP US CHECK THE NUMBERS
We may ask for:
- Front photograph
- Side photograph
- Full-height photograph
- Shoulder photograph
- Photograph of the measuring tape
These help our tailors understand posture and confirm that the tape has been placed correctly.
